The Gathering

When you grow up in the military, like Kathy and I did, one of the drawbacks, though few, is you really don’t have a ‘hometown’ that you can go back to. So when you think of graduating from high school overseas, like we did back in Frankfurt, Germany in the late 70’s, you can imagine how difficult it would be to stay in touch with one another as the years pass on.

Thanks to the internet and Facebook, we did just that. We reconnected over the past year and planned a small get together in Arizona this past weekend. There are no words to describe the joy and pure happiness we all experienced over the past few days.

I can’t remember laughing as hard and as often as we did. Some of us had not seen each other in 30+ years.

What was so nice was the sense that we simply ‘picked up’ from the point where we last left off so many years ago. Somehow, that to me is a sign of true friendship. I just hope we don’t have to wait as long for our next ‘gathering’.
