What To Do …What To Do… & Smoking Turkeys

I sure hope this is not a sign of things to come – getting forgetful as I get older. I keep a planner/calendar pretty regularly now. I have done so, faithfully, for the first time in my adult life, these past few years. As I have gotten busier with photo shoot bookings, it just became necessary. So this past weekend, I was looking in my book for this upcoming week and I had jotted down in my calendar for today, the 19th, the initials ‘kw/mm’.

For the life of me, I have no idea what it means. Had it been a schedule shoot, I think I would have put the time down like I usually do. But that is all I have. There are no games of any sort that I know of tonight. Kathy is off at work and won’t be home until late tomorrow. And I am drawing a total blank. Can’t wait to check my phone messages later tonight or tomorrow. This is bothersome for sure.

I wrote a few weeks ago about how this Thanksgiving was going to be a bit different for us with everyone scattering and Minda and I set to attend our first Cowboy game. We still wanted to figure out a day to have our dinner together and it turns out Wednesday will be the only free evening we all have, so we’re meeting at Minda’s place. I have been smoking our turkeys now for the past 21 years and see no reason to change that tradition.

However, I am going to try something different this year. Kathy found a recipe for turkeys where you soak the bird in a brine for two days before smoking it. The reviews on this solution and method are quite the rave. For anyone else out there who likes to smoke their turkeys, you might look in to this. I’ll be sure to post about it after the fact.
